Dental Prescribing App
SDCEP's 'Dental Prescribing' app brings its popular 'Drug Prescribing For Dentistry' guidance to your iPhone®, iPad® and iPod touch®. A key new feature is the inclusion of direct links to the BNF website for drug interaction information.
Based on the latest version of the BNF and BNFC, the app includes local measures and drug prescriptions for the management of a range of dental conditions for both adults and children. Information on the management of medical emergencies is also provided, including drug administration.
The app is organised into the same sections as the printed book and also includes:
- search function
- favourites
- direct links to the BNF
SDCEP will review each new edition of the BNF and BNFC and intends to include any necessary changes within 'Drug Prescribing' as a free update for at least two years following release of this app.
Purchase 'Dental Prescribing' from the App StoreSM now for just £2.99.
Background
The SDCEP 'Drug Prescribing for Dentistry' guidance was first published in 2008, with a second edition published in 2011. The aim of the guidance is to facilitate easy access to information that is most relevant to primary care dental practice by bringing together advice on dental prescribing from the BNF and BNFC, including advice on the management of medical emergencies. The guidance is aimed at dental practitioners in the primary care sector, and applies to all patients, including adults, children and those with special needs, who would normally be treated in this sector.
SDCEP is keen to employ novel approaches to guidance delivery, such as the use of mobile technology and apps, and intend the 'Dental Prescribing' app to be an additional tool for dental practitioners in primary care.
For further information about the development of the app, or to report any issues, please contact the SDCEP office (scottishdental.cep@nes.scot.nhs.uk). Currently the app is only available for iOS devices. If you are interested in obtaining the app for use on another mobile platform, please let us know.
