Two resources have been developed to inform decisions about the re-opening of dental practices.

A rapid review of internationally produced guidance has been carried out to support decision-making for re-opening dental services closed or reduced across the world as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The review group included the Scottish Dental Clinical Effectiveness Programme (SDCEP), NHS Education for Scotland (NES), the Universities of Aberdeen, Dundee and Manchester, and Cochrane Oral Health.

Several return-to-practice guidance and standard operating procedure documents have now been produced across the UK, including SDCEP’s Practice Recovery Toolkit. A comparison of the six main documents has been published by SDCEP, with the agreement and involvement of the source organisations. The level of agreement across the source documents should provide reassurance to dental professionals in every area of the UK.
